Cyprus and Andorra advance EU association talks with agreement expected in October
Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and Andorran counterpart Imma Tor Faus met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss progress in relations between Andorra and the European Union. They highlighted the recent approval of the association agreement by the Council of the EU in July, an achievement facilitated during Cyprus' presidency term. This agreement allows Andorra and San Marino to participate in an extended internal market under equal competition conditions and regulatory oversight by EU authorities.
The agreement also covers financial services, granting progressive market access pending successful audits of regulatory frameworks. It establishes cooperation in research, education, social policy, environment, consumer protection, and culture. The deal is expected to be signed on October 19, marking a step forward for mutually beneficial relations.
Kombos and Tor Faus also discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Cyprus and Andorra and enhancing cooperation within regional, multilateral forums and among Europe's small states. The accord is seen as a significant move to integrate Andorra more closely with the EU while safeguarding the integrity of the EU's single market.
