AHDR launches Imagine Peace Academy in Nicosia to advance peace education across communities
The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) inaugurated the Imagine Peace Academy on September 20 at the Home for Cooperation in Nicosia, marking a significant step in peace education on the International Day of Peace. The Academy is designed to expand AHDR's peace initiatives by offering programs for educators, young people, and parents, supported by both local and international partnerships. Its four pillars include teacher training, youth engagement, parental dialogue platforms, and a regional hub to sustain intercommunal peace efforts.
With a focus on adapting to changing political landscapes, the Academy provides monocommunal and intercommunal opportunities and creates networks of Educational and Youth Ambassadors for Peace. The launch also introduced a new peace education campaign showcasing participant experiences from Imagine, aiming to enhance reconciliation voices and community connectivity on the island.
The opening event featured speeches highlighting the importance of reconciliation supported by the German Embassy, along with broader International Day of Peace activities including anti-racism dialogue and signing a commitment to action for anti-racist education in Cyprus. AHDR, founded in 2003, continues to promote dialogue, critical thinking, and a culture of peace through its longstanding educational programs and the Home for Cooperation centre in the UN Buffer Zone.
