Lidl Cyprus expands 'Project Zero' environmental programme to universities for 2026-2027 academic year
Lidl Cyprus has announced the expansion of its successful "Project Zero" environmental education programme into higher education institutions for the 2026-2027 academic year. Since 2021, the initiative, in collaboration with the AKTI Project and Research Centre, has raised awareness among over 62,000 children and helped remove 18.6 tonnes of waste from Cyprus' shores.
Between March and July 2026, the programme trained 6,756 students and organized multiple cleanup activities, including 17 beach cleanups and one underwater cleanup in Limassol. Educational visits to 33 schools focused on marine pollution and solutions, while several activities were aligned with the European Maritime Day campaign.
The next phase targets university students with participatory workshops involving laboratory microplastics observations and policy formulation. Lidl Cyprus and AKTI reaffirm their commitment to fostering environmental awareness and sustainability among the new generation, equipping them with tools to combat plastic pollution and promote a cleaner future.
