Cyprus tourism downturn to ease with arrivals ending 5% below 2025 levels
Cyprus' tourism sector is showing signs of recovery, with tourist arrivals expected to finish about 5% below 2025 levels by the end of the year, according to Tourism Deputy Minister Kostas Koumis. Between January and August, arrivals reached 2,820,649, a 7% decline compared to the same period last year, marking an improvement from an 8% decline in the first seven months.
The year started strong, with record arrivals in January and February, but disruptions in the Middle East during March led to cancellations of around 70% of flights to Cyprus. This caused a significant downturn in spring visitor numbers. However, government efforts to maintain air connectivity and support niche tourism have helped narrow the decline.
By the end of July, the gap had already decreased to 8%, and with August arrivals down just 3.3% from the previous year but up compared to 2024, officials remain optimistic. Koumis emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the government and the private sector to further improve tourism outcomes for the rest of the year.
