Cyprus credit servicers manage €9.3bn in household loans with high NPL ratio

Cyprus’ credit servicers and credit acquiring companies held a loan portfolio totaling €19.28 billion as of June 2026, with household loans comprising €9.345 billion of this amount. Despite ongoing efforts, the sector’s non-performing loan (NPL) ratio remained alarmingly high at 94.6%, underscoring the persistent concentration of distressed loans.

The portfolio also includes €9.205 billion in loans to non-financial corporations and €726 million to other financial corporations. The net book value of all loans stood at €2.671 billion, reflecting valuation adjustments. Over 62,000 borrowers were serviced, with households representing the majority at 53,494.

Additionally, credit acquiring companies reported a decline in property holdings, dropping from 8,014 in March to 7,714 by June 2026. The open market value of these properties decreased by €50 million to €918 million, indicating a 5.2% fall. These figures highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Cyprus’ credit servicing sector amid a high level of non-performing loans.
