22-year-old woman paralysed after stabbing attack at Nicosia supermarket
A 22-year-old woman who was stabbed multiple times at a Nicosia supermarket last month has been left paralysed, according to the chief physician of Dr Burhan Nalbantoglu hospital. The victim, Zhanerke Abdrazakova, suffers irreversible spinal cord damage and has no movement or feeling in her hands and feet. She is conscious but relies on a machine for breathing and faces serious neurological problems.
The attack occurred on August 3 inside the Metropol supermarket in Taskinkoy suburb. The 31-year-old attacker remains in custody, charged with attempted premeditated murder and aggravated assault. The man stabbed Abdrazakova after she ended their relationship, which began in January. Following the breakup, he travelled to Cyprus, rented a villa, and later cancelled his flight to find and attack her.
Authorities have trained Abdrazakova's family in caregiving since they relocated to Cyprus from Kyrgyzstan. The attacker’s lawyer claims Abdrazakova extorted money from the man and noted his psychiatric treatment. A trial date is pending as he remains detained for up to three months.
