Cyprus is positioning itself as an emerging player in the European space ecosystem, Research Deputy Minister Nicodemos Damianou stated after the signing of a joint declaration with France in the field of space. The partnership aims to enhance cooperation in Earth observation, space science, and satellite communications, fostering knowledge exchange and joint research initiatives.
Damianou highlighted Cyprus’s evolution from a user of space services to an active contributor, underscored by its recent associate membership in the European Space Agency and strategic investments in satellite infrastructure and connectivity. The creation of a space business incubation centre in Limassol exemplifies the island’s focus on innovation.
Beyond space collaboration, Damianou noted that Cyprus and France are deepening their bilateral relations across strategic sectors, including defence and energy, reinforcing their shared commitment to a stronger, more autonomous Europe. This growing partnership builds on previous agreements and emphasizes Cyprus's pivotal role in the eastern Mediterranean region.
