Cyprus Deputy Minister highlights women's philanthropic role in maritime industry ahead of World Maritime Day
Cyprus’s Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanoli, praised the significant contribution of women and the long-standing tradition of social giving by shipowning families at an event in Athens ahead of World Maritime Day. She emphasized that shipping is a key pillar of the Cypriot economy and highlighted the industry's deep commitment to charitable activities supporting healthcare, education, social welfare, and environmental causes.
Hadjimanoli noted that this culture of philanthropy, especially during crises and natural disasters, plays a vital role in providing immediate support to individuals and communities. She also acknowledged women's influential roles in the industry, both professionally and through social contributions, citing their dedication to enhancing the social impact of maritime initiatives.
The event, titled "Woman – Shipping – Social Contribution," was held under the patronage of Cyprus’s First Lady, Filippa Karsera Christodoulides, who was commended for her support of women’s efforts in the sector. Hadjimanoli also expressed gratitude to the Cyprus Union of Shipowners and diplomatic representatives for their ongoing support.
