Polemidia Mayor opposes high-density building increase to preserve neighborhood character
Polemidia Mayor Andros Theodorou has vetoed plans to raise building density ratios in the municipality’s newly developing residential area north of the general hospital. While supporting the expansion of residential boundaries, the mayor emphasized opposition to high-rise developments that would alter the neighborhood’s character. The current building density of 60% is considered sufficient for the area.
Municipal authorities are conducting public consultations as part of drafting the new Limassol Local Plan, with final zoning adjustment proposals due by October 30 to the Tripartite Committee. The council supports selective building density increases in older housing zones to aid younger families, but rejects such increases in the former livestock zone north of the hospital.
The mayor also highlighted ongoing negotiations to create public sports facilities and green spaces in the area by reallocating Turkish Cypriot structures. Additionally, efforts are underway to relocate livestock farming with state compensation for retiring farmers and the expeditious establishment of a new livestock zone towards Vati for those continuing in the profession.
