Cyprus anticipates rebound in French tourist arrivals in 2027 with improved air connectivity
Cyprus expects a stronger influx of French tourists in 2027 as airlines increase capacity between the two countries, Tourism Deputy Minister Kostas Koumis announced following discussions with tour operators at the IFTM Top Resa exhibition in Paris. The French market suffered a significant downturn in 2026, with arrivals nearly halving in August compared to the previous year amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Between January and August 2026, Cyprus recorded 2.82 million visitors, a 7% decrease from the same period in 2025. Focused on reversing this trend, Cyprus is enhancing air connectivity and tailoring its tourism offerings to meet French travelers' preferences. Koumis emphasized that improving flight availability is a crucial factor for market growth and expressed confidence about increased French visitor numbers next year.
During the Paris event, Koumis also engaged in talks to strengthen tourism cooperation with Egypt and highlighted Cyprus's commitment to providing excellent hospitality. The deputy minister reinforced Cyprus’s focus on specialized tourism sectors and promotional efforts aimed at revitalizing the French market, which remains vital for the island’s tourism industry.
