Cyprus Construction Material Prices Rise in August, Electrical Fixtures and Plastics Lead Increases
Construction material prices in Cyprus increased again in August, with the overall price index reaching 123.09 units, marking a 3.39% rise compared to August 2025 and a slight 0.07% increase from July. The annual increase for the first eight months of 2026 stood at 2.06%. Sharpest rises were seen in electrical fixtures, plastics, and aluminium products, reflecting growing costs in key construction inputs.
Electrical fixtures posted the steepest annual increase of 7.30%, with their price index climbing to 141.91 units. Plastic products also saw significant growth, rising 6.58% year-on-year to an index of 132.48 units. Aluminium products remained elevated, with a 5.99% annual increase. Other categories such as metallic products, wood, insulation materials, and chemicals experienced moderate price growth, although some subcategories saw slight monthly declines.
Meanwhile, heating and cooling equipment prices fell by 1.67% year-on-year, bucking the overall trend. Cement prices hit a high with an index of 144.31 units, increasing by 4.79% annually. The sustained rise in construction material costs highlights ongoing inflationary pressures impacting the Cypriot construction sector.
