Serbian artist Milenko Stevanović's 'Closely Observed' exhibition opens in Nicosia
The 'Closely Observed' exhibition showcasing works by Serbian artist Milenko Stevanović opens on September 17 at Nicosia's In Toto Gallery and runs until October 15. The exhibition features four paintings, two fine art prints, and one drawing created between 2021 and 2026, exploring portraiture as a reciprocal act of observation reflecting the artist’s first years in Cyprus.
Curated by Constantinos Kyprianou and presented by ABR – Alternative Brains Rule, the exhibit challenges traditional notions of observation by portraying the dynamic relationship between artist and sitter. The collection becomes a portrait of proximity, capturing people, spaces, and rituals that have influenced Stevanović's life on the island. A self-portrait included in the exhibition further extends this theme by turning observation inward.
Alongside the exhibit, two related events are scheduled: a conversation with Stevanović and Diomedes Koufteros on September 24, and a guided tour with Michael Pavlides on October 2. The gallery's opening hours accommodate visitors Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, Saturdays, and during the Laou Laou event on Sunday.
