Cyprus has signed a memorandum of understanding on shipping with Bahrain, marking a significant step in strengthening its role as a maritime and geopolitical bridge between Europe, the Middle East, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanoli highlighted the memorandum as part of a broader strategy to convert political dialogue into tangible partnerships and business opportunities.
The agreement, reached during Hadjimanoli's visit to Bahrain, focuses on joint initiatives leveraging Cyprus’s maritime expertise. The visit included key business, academic, and research meetings aimed at fostering collaboration beyond government levels. This effort complements Cyprus’s cooperation with Gulf countries such as Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, as well as ongoing initiatives with Greece, Malta, and Italy.
Cyprus is also working closely with Mediterranean shipping nations to address shared challenges like decarbonization, competitiveness, and geopolitical risks. A recent joint declaration with Greece, Malta, and Italy outlined common priorities for innovation, clean technologies, and secure sea routes.
