George Karatzias appointed new chairman of Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has officially appointed George Karatzias as its new chairman, following a Cabinet decision last week. Karatzias returns to CySEC’s leadership after previously serving as vice chairman from 2021 to 2024 and most recently as a board member of the Central Bank of Cyprus. Alongside him, Loukas Lagoudis has been named vice chairman, while Andrea Moundis Savvides joins the commission’s board.
Karatzias emphasized the commission’s critical role in maintaining market transparency, integrity, and investor protection amidst evolving financial challenges. He pledged to focus on effective supervision, innovation, and fostering sustainable capital market development in Cyprus. Lagoudis brings extensive experience in banking, investment management, and blockchain sectors, with a background that includes senior roles at international financial institutions and advanced academic qualifications.
The new CySEC leadership team aims to enhance Cyprus’ financial markets' credibility and stability, working closely with board members and staff to uphold investor confidence and promote transparency.
