Court of Appeal rejects German woman's appeal in Cyprus property fraud case
Cyprus’s Court of Appeal has once again dismissed an appeal by a German woman accused of illegally usurping Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied village of Agios Amvrosios near Kyrenia. The ruling on Tuesday upheld her detention and approved the postponement of her trial due to health issues affecting the prosecution's representative. The woman faces 46 charges including fraudulent property dealings, illegal possession, and money laundering relating to transactions that occurred between 2023 and 2024, with the trial ongoing since March 2025.
The Court of Appeal found no reason to overturn the Criminal Court's decision to delay proceedings, declaring the postponement justified and dismissing claims of procedural abuse. Despite her lawyer’s argument highlighting the over two years she has spent in custody and requesting conditional release, the court denied the request. The defendant has been detained since July 2024, and the case continues to proceed with a hearing scheduled for Thursday.
