Culture ministry staff protest budget control centralization and management issues
Staff at the culture ministry held a one-hour spontaneous work stoppage on Wednesday morning in protest against attempts by the ministry’s director-general to centralize control over the entire budget. The walkout involved all ministry employees from 9am to 10am and was organized by the Pasydy union. They objected to budget changes being pursued without consultation with department directors or the Culture Deputy Minister.
Pasydy warned that these proposed changes would remove departmental autonomy by concentrating budget oversight, project implementation, and financial approvals under the director-general alone. The union further accused the director-general of marginalizing departmental directors, causing delays in approvals, interfering with departmental responsibilities, and creating an intimidating work environment. They called on the ministry’s administration to take immediate action to resolve these issues, or face stronger union measures in the future.
