Fashion Fighting Stigma pop-up in Nicosia highlights mental health through art and fashion
The two-day Fashion Fighting Stigma pop-up event was held successfully at BAF in Nicosia on September 9-10, 2026, using fashion and art to challenge mental health stigma. The exhibition showcased garments, photographs, sketches, and audiovisual works connected to mental health experiences, fostering meaningful conversations on this important social issue. Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides attended the opening, stressing the significance of cultural and creative initiatives in promoting social awareness and listening to lived experiences.
The event featured talks by designers Vasiliki Charitonos and Sophia Kouvarou, who shared how the project influenced them creatively and personally. A panel discussion with experts and audience members further encouraged dialogue about mental health, with calls for ongoing conversations, including those focusing on specific conditions. Poly Gregora, Cyprus’ National Mental Health Ambassador and the initiative's creator, emphasized the goal of placing lived experience at the heart of mental health change. Organisers thanked contributors and BAF for hosting the impactful programme.
