Cyprus Medical Association to Investigate Doctors Linked to Wellness and Anti-Ageing Clinics
The Cyprus Medical Association has announced plans to investigate doctors working with wellness, weight-loss, rejuvenation, and anti-ageing clinics following a Health Ministry mapping of such centres across the country. These checks will cover both licensed and unlicensed premises, aiming to address concerns over illegal practices and misuse of medical titles.
The move comes amid revelations about a Larnaca centre found with illegal drugs and unauthorized equipment, triggering police and health ministry inspections. Association president Petros Agathangelou emphasized the need to identify and address professional involvement in potentially risky and unethical activities at these centres.
The Association urges doctors to adhere strictly to scientific ethics and warns against taking roles beyond their training, especially in unlicensed establishments where charlatanism is a growing issue. Public awareness is also encouraged, with advice to verify clinics' operating licences and recognised specialties before seeking treatment.
