Savvas Papasavvas elected president of EU General Court until 2028

Savvas Papasavvas has been elected president of the General Court of the European Union for the remainder of the term ending August 31, 2028. Born in Nicosia in 1960, Papasavvas brings decades of experience in law and the judiciary to his new role.

Papasavvas holds a law degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a postgraduate degree in public law from the University of Paris II, and a doctorate from the University of Aix-Marseille III. He was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 1993 and practiced law before joining the General Court as a judge in 2004.

Throughout his career, Papasavvas has served as a lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Cyprus and held leadership positions within the General Court, including president of a chamber and vice president. His election to president marks the continuation of his prominent role in the EU judiciary.
